The Image Atelier

An interpretive photographic practice

A woman is rarely contained by the obvious facts of her life.

There is the body of work she has built, certainly, but also the sentence she returns to, the conviction she has carried for years, the contradiction she has never felt compelled to make neat and tidy, the taste so particular it has become second nature.

Beside one another, these things begin to behave differently. Something apparently incidental acquires weight. One detail casts another in a different light.

The photograph becomes a particular reading of those relationships—this woman, this life, this moment.

The Practice

Inquiry, interpretation, and image-making remain in conversation throughout the work.

Throughlines

Visual Language

Language is always my entry-point. I draw on journalistic inquiry to listen past the merely informational: what returns, what gets revised, what becomes more precise under another question, what seems incidental until something else places it in a different light.

Not everything carries the same weight. Certain ideas, contradictions, references, memories, or details begin to gather significance in relation to one another. Interpretation is the work of discerning those throughlines—and the point of view they begin to form.

That point of view is given photographic form. It begins to determine emphasis, gesture, environment, movement, composition, rhythm; what belongs in the frame, what can remain outside it, what ought to stay unresolved. The interpretation continues in the making.

For Skintima MD

Dr. Shannon Sanchez

Conceived for Skintima MD's transition from a med spa to a boutique women's health collective, Women's Health Renaissance became the guiding concept for a photographic series rooted in Renaissance imagery and the idea of care across generations.

Sculptural still lifes and intergenerational portraits bring the practice's new positioning into visual form.

“I’m floored with the way [you’ve captured] what I’ve been trying to put out there in terms of this new era of Skintima MD… The photos are to DIE FOR!
I love how you captured such a feminine essence. Thank you, thank you, thank you.”

The Commission

Each commission is built around the woman at its center and the context the photographs are being made to serve.

Over approximately six to eight weeks, I begin with journalistic inquiry and the material relevant to the work at hand, identifying the throughlines that will shape its particular point of view. From there, I develop the visual language and lead the photographic work through production and final delivery.

The result is an edited body of photographs made for their intended context, with usage defined according to the commission.

Commissions begin at $5,000.

Production expenses and expanded usage are scoped separately where applicable.

For Lot 16

Karina Granado

Conceived for Lot16, this photographic series explores the relationship between interior stylist Karina’s design philosophy, creative process, and personal sensibility.

Portraits of Karina at work, details of her styling process, and intimate glimpses into her everyday life reveal both the woman behind the interiors and the considered decisions that give her spaces their character.

The FAQ’s

What can an Image Atelier commission be created for?

What can an Image Atelier commission be created for?

The Atelier is designed around women and the body of material that surrounds their work, life, sensibility, and public presence. It can be commissioned around a body of work, a launch, an editorial or public-facing moment, a creative or commercial project, or another occasion that calls for a distinct photographic interpretation.

If you’re reaching out about a different kind of photographic project, you’re welcome to inquire directly.

How far in advance should I inquire?

How far in advance should I inquire?

The full commission typically unfolds over six to eight weeks, so I recommend inquiring at least eight weeks before you need the finished photographs.

If your timeline is shorter, include your required delivery date when you write. Expedited commissions may be possible depending on scope and availability, and a rush fee may apply.

What do I need before inquiring?

What do I need before inquiring?

You do not need to arrive with a finished concept or a complete brief.

I’ll guide you through what I need and request the relevant materials. The work begins with the woman herself—her work, history, language, sensibility, and the context surrounding the photographs.

Can you work with my existing team or creative materials?

Can you work with my existing team or creative materials?

Absolutely. Existing messaging, editorial direction, references, moodboards, campaign plans, and other material are a welcome part of the work. They give me context, language, and reference points to interpret alongside what emerges through inquiry.

If you’re reaching out about a different kind of photographic project—editorial, commercial, or otherwise—you’re welcome to inquire directly.

I’m outside of Miami—do you travel?

I’m outside of Miami—do you travel?

Yes. While based in Miami, I’m available for travel. Travel and related production expenses are scoped according to the project.

What happens after I inquire?

What happens after I inquire?

You’ll hear from me within 24–48 hours. If the commission appears to be a fit, we’ll arrange an initial conversation to discuss the work, timing, and relevant context. From there, I’ll share next steps.
